Microbial Identification

At NovelMicrobe.com, we specialize in culture-based identification of bacteria and fungi via 16S rRNA/Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) amplicon DNA sequencing and comprehensive analysis techniques.

Microbial Genomics

Comprehensive genomic analysis available.

A draft genome sequence (Illumina only) can identify shared and unique genes of a strain or confirm an identification based on >95% Average Nucleotide Identity (ANI) relative to the type strain of a species.

A complete closed sequence (long read assembly), can identify plasmids, or recombination events relative to a type strain that may change the traits of a strain.

Microbial Characterization

We can perform a wide variety of experiments with your organism to determine optimal growth conditions (pH, [NaCl], temperature, oxygen), antibiotic sensitivity and resistances, nutrients used and waste products made via traditional methods, or higher throughput methods such as with Biolog GenIII plates and Phenotype Microarrays. We also can perform chemotaxonomic analyses such as polar lipid analysis, fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) analysis, lipoquinone identification, and pigment analysis.

Microbiome Analysis

Determine microorganisms present in a sample.

We offer expert services to businesses and researchers seeking to explore microbial communities in diverse environments. By leveraging advanced sequencing technologies, bioinformatics tools, and statistical analysis, we can provide detailed insights into the composition, diversity, and functional potential of microbiomes from samples such as water, soil, fecal material, or products sold by businesses. These microbiome assessments can help clients understand complex microbial data and explain unexpected observations or properties of a sample.
